- Wallace, Idaho is located 40 miles east of CDA off I-90. Along the way you should stop at the Old Mission State Park 682-3814 to see the states oldest standing building and historic cemetery. Wallace has the World’s Longest Gondola Ride to the top of Silver Mountain. Wallace is the Silver Mining Capital of the World having produced more than 1 billion ounces. Mining tours and shops full of silver and other precious gems are found in town. The actress, Lana Turner, was born here on February 8, 1921. Wallace is unique because of its fine collection of turn-of-the-century buildings, some designed by nationally known architects. The entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and whole blocks in the business district have remained virtually intact for a hundred years or more. Walking tours are available for both the downtown and residential areas. Movies filmed here were Dante’s Peak (1996), Heaven’s Gate (1979), and Frivolous Sal (1925).
